Compression Garments After Liposuction: What Your Patients Actually Need
Compression garments are the most-overlooked piece of the post-lipo protocol. The right garment can mean the difference between a patient who raves about their results and one who comes back with prolonged swelling, seromas, or uneven contour.
Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 Garments
Post-liposuction compression is a two-stage process:
Stage 1 (Week 1–3): Maximum compression. Firm, structured garments that control immediate post-operative edema and support flap adherence. These need to stay on 23 hours/day.
Stage 2 (Week 3–8): Graduated compression. Less rigid, more wearable for daily life. Patients still need support but comfort becomes a factor.
We carry Revivec compression garments — medical-grade, available in full-body, abdominal, arm, facial, and panty-style configurations.
What to Look for in a Garment
- Graduated compression (mmHg rating): Look for 30–40mmHg for Stage 1
- Anti-roll leg bands: Prevents bunching and pressure points
- Adjustable closures: Hook-and-eye or zipper systems allow fit adjustment as swelling resolves
- Breathable fabric: Cotton-blend outperforms pure synthetic for long-wear comfort
- Coverage: Match the garment zone to the treated area
Sizing Your Patients
Compression garments should be sized pre-operatively when possible. Measure at the waist, hips, and thighs — swelling will add 1–2 sizes in the first 48 hours, so account for that when selecting Stage 1 sizing.
Why Cheap Garments Are a False Economy
A $12 Amazon garment doesn’t maintain consistent compression. The seams fail. The sizing is unreliable. And when a patient develops a seroma because their garment lost its structure by week 2, they’re not blaming the garment — they’re blaming their surgeon.
Medical-grade garments, ordered through a trusted surgical supplier, protect your outcomes and your reputation.
